Dickson serves on the board of the New Mexico Alliance for School-Based Health Care and is a member of several state-wide, advisory boards focused on adolescent health and school health. She is a member of the American Public Health Association, American Nurses Association, National Association of School Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau. Dickson has collaborated on research grants with faculty in population health, medicine, and social sciences. Her funded research focus includes adolescent health, sexual health education, school health and nursing, public health, and community based participatory research (CBPR). Dickson has worked in rural and urban communities with federal, state, and local public health agencies including the New Mexico Department of Health and the Indian Health Service, with extensive public health program experience. Her dissertation research explored the content and delivery of sexual health education in New Mexico public secondary schools, and identified levels of influence for those responsible for implementing education policy related to sexual health education. Dickson was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nursing and Health Policy Fellow from 2013 - 2018. She received her Doctor of Philosophy from UNM in 2017, her Master of Science in Nursing from Samuel Merritt College in 2000, and her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento, in 1991.
